Lesson Overview:
Students will:
- research metamorphosis of butterfly
- list the stages of development
- locate web images for each stage of development
- teams plan and create a storyboard for each stage of development
- Egg
- Young larvae
- Mature larvae
- Chrysalis
- Pupa
- Adult butterfly (2 versions)
- teams build “characters” from non-hardening clay
- set up studio (digital camera, tripod, stationary lighting)
- capture metamorphosis one frame at a time, make small adjustments for each photo (more frames = smoother transitions)
- animate: upload photos in PowerPoint or iMovie
- add music
Problem Solving: Using Big6
Collaborate with science, library and computer teachers to allow ample time for research and discussion. (Collaboration is a must since elementary art teachers only see the children for approximately 45 minutes per week.)

-Visit library to review books and media on metamorphosis
-Teacher provides links to appropriate search engines
- Divide class in to research groups to locate information
- Stages of metamorphosis
- Images of metamorphosis
- Claymation
- Students locate sites with required information and complete a Web Page Evaluation for each site.
- If the site has all of the required qualities the student should bookmark the site.
- bookmark 1-2 websites each
- Print appropriate reference images
